Captain’s Reading list for Entrepreneurs
Sparketype:
Although this technically isn’t a book (there is an accompanying one however), this test was super helpful to me when I was debating whether or not to open Lifeboat. It really dives deep into what makes you “spark” so that you feel the most satisfied and fulfilled in your career or life. I’m a maker and a maven; I need to dissect and create things, and then share. If I had taken another corporate gig, I would have just smoldered.
Start with Why by Simon Sineck
This book is full of questions to ask yourself as you create your business model and culture. It also has a bunch of case studies and models of the success and failure of many businesses we see in the world today.
Pivot by Jenny Blake
This book is wonderful for the entrepreneur who might feel a bit uncertain going out on their own, or deciding on a path. Check out the podcast too. She interviews a lot of entrepreneurs and influencers about their journeys.
Free Time by Jenny Blake
I love this book. It’s all about finding time and learning to let others help with your business as you grow. Take off one hat, now one more.
Quiet by Susan Cain
Made for the introverts in the room, this book is all about harnessing the qualities of being an introvert. Super helpful in understanding how to work successfully with different personality types.
The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
This is a quick listen or read and a gentle reminder of what matters in life. Sometimes when things get stressful as an entrepreneur, going back to the basics is helpful.
Atomic Habits by James Clear
Most of us know habits can make or break us. This book has some great and simple examples of how creating new habits can set us up for success.
